3 Dead in Fatal SR522 Crash-Snohomish County

Maltby, Washington: Just after 3:00 pm on June 16th, 2014 the Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle head on collision on State Route 522 near milepost 18. This is just east of Fales Road. According to the Washington State Patrol press memo, Gerardo Martinezurrutia,  24 was traveling Eastbound on State Route 522 in a gray 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse when he traveled onto the Westbound Shoulder, struck a traffic barrel, overcorrected and struck a 2007 Ford Fusion head on. Driving the Ford Fusion was 79 year old Stanley Klinger. Mr. Klinger was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he passed away. A passenger in the Ford Fusion,  76 year old Joan Kinger, was killed on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 1 1-2 year old passenger in the Mitsubishi Eclipse, Isabella Rose Bednarski passed away as a result of the accident on Friday 6/20/14.  Both vehicles were impounded by Kristoff’s Towing.  At the time of this story, the only surviving person in the accident, Gerardo, was still in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center.  The cause is under investigation and charges are pending against the surviving driver.
