Hamilton, WA: Around 5:12 am this morning, Lyman, Punkin Center, Med 1, The Skagit County Sheriff and The Washington State Patrol responded to a Log Truck vs. Pedestrian Motor Vehicle Accident.
Responding units were toned to Medford Road at Hamilton Cemetery Road. The reporting party then took the responding units several miles up Medford to the top of the Hill near the horse camp to the accident scene.
There is no cell service in the area and initial communication from the scene by witnesses was done via radio communications and loggers strategically placing themselves at turns or Y’s in the road to lead first responders up the gravel road and into the scene.
The Washington State Patrols says 56 year old, Richard Rector of Sequim was driving a 2007 Peterbuilt Tractor and was hauling a maroon 1955 Log Trailer.
Witnesses say the driver had radioed and told others he was pulling over to check the trailer.
The Press Memo states the driver was parked on MJ-MI Logging Road near Medford Road. The Driver exited the vehicle to check the brakes in front of the trailer and released the brakes. The Tractor Trailer rolled forward, dragging the driver under the vehicle, where he died.
The vehicle was impounded to The Mount Vernon Towing yard.
The cause of the accident is listed as Under Investigation.
