January 23rd, 2015. 5:37 pm. The Washington State Patrol responded to a Vehicle vs. Bicycle accident at the intersection of H street and State Route 543 in Blaine, WA.
According to the Press memo, Andrey Kirichkov, 26 of Blaine was Northbound SR 543 at H street driving a 1993 Ford Ranger Pickup.
Douglas Benton, 53, of Blaine was Westbound on H street on a green Murray pedal cycle. The press memo states he entered the intersection against a red light where he was struck and killed by the Northbound Pickup. The driver of the pickup fled the scene Westbound.
According to the Washington State Patrol Twitter account, the driver later returned to the scene. He was booked into the Whatcom County Jail. The Jail roster showed he was being held on driving on a suspended license as well as other charges.
Both vehicles were impounded to the Bellingham Washington State Patrol Bullpen.
Charges are pending.
