TACOMA, WA:   Barney, an 11-year old black lab narcotics K-9 with the Tacoma Police Department, died during a drug bust in Puyallup.

According to the  Tacoma Police department, Barney, a trained  narcotics dog,  died after accidentally  ingesting meth while serving a search warrant with officers at a Puyallup Storage Unit. Narcotics dogs are routinely  trained to alert their handlers to drugs by placing their nose on them.  Barney accidentally inhaled residue from meth during this drug bust and went into seizures. Barney’s partner and handler rushed him to a local  vet hospital where he died the following day.

Three men were taken into custody after $225,000 in cash and 40 pounds of meth were seized.

Condolences can be sent to the Tacoma Police Department at 3701 S. Pine St., Tacoma, WA 98409. They ask that donations be send to your local Humane Society in honor of Barney.
