Mount Vernon, WA: The Mount Vernon Police Department as well as the Mount Vernon Fire Department and Emergency Medical services responded to a shooting near 3rd and Montgomery around 9:45 pm.
According to the police and fire scanner traffic, there was a single victim with a gunshot wound to the head located in a Maroon taxi van (owned by Mert’s Taxi in Anacortes, Washington) near the Pacific Pride Fuel Station. Witnesses said a suspect was seen running from the van with a gun. Note: A Kiro 7 reporter showed up on scene and live streamed video through their cell phone using an app called periscope. During the live stream the van appeared to be a maroon taxi van.
Mount Vernon officers immediately cordoned off the area, with help from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office. Units called for K-9 assistance from Whatcom County. They also requested the Pacific Pride, Skagit Valley Hospital and other area business “call outs” be contacted and asked to respond to locate possible video of the suspects from business cameras in the area.
During their initial call they received another call about a possible theft of a different vehicle at gun point on the reventment, which is just a few blocks from the original scene. Police made contact with the Reporting Party for the stolen vehicle and took them to the station for a witness statement. The two incidents happened in the same general area and could be connected.
A “BOLO” (Be on Look Out) was sent out to area Law Enforcement for a Black 96 Toyota Camry with white rims. The BOLO also went out to surrounding county Law Enforcment as well as the Washington State Patrol. The BOLO had officer safety alerts for homicide.
Mount Vernon Fire cleared the scene and Mount Vernon Police Called for the coroner.
The investigation continues and additional details will be released when the initial crime scene is processed and cleared.
