Burlington Teachers Will Walk-Out April 30th

Burlington TeachersBurlington, WA:  The Burlington-Edison School District has been informed that the Burlington-Edison Education
Association (B-EEA) has voted in favor of participating in a “rolling walk-out” on Thursday, April 30.
The walk-out is not about our school district, but is an effort by the teachers’
association to influence the Washington State Legislature. The one-day protest (walkout) is a
political strategy that the teachers’ association is choosing to use and is directed at the
Washington State Legislature in Olympia because of the minimal movement in support of
schools at the legislative level.
Thursday, April 30 is now a no school day. Similar to an unplanned snow day, this school day
will need to be made up. The make-up day has not yet been determined; we will communicate as
soon as a makeup date has been set.
We are planning to continue with all after-school activities and evening events on April 30
as currently scheduled. Please know that this change in the school calendar will NOT affect
High School Graduation or 8th Grade Promotion. High School Gradation is still scheduled
for Friday, June 12; 8th Grade Promotion is still scheduled for Monday, June 15.
Please know this labor walkout is beyond the control of Burlington-Edison Public Schools, and
yet we are so sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. We will share more information about
the make-up day as soon as it is available.
