Man Killed in Dune Buggy Accident near Day Creek

Day Creek, Washington:  Firefighters and medics from Skagit EMS, The Day Creek Fire Department and The Clear Lake Fire Department responded to a dune buggy rollover accident around 8 am this morning.

A witness on a motorcycle, met responding units at the South Skagit Highway and lead them  about 4 miles up a logging road  into the accident scene on the Finney-Cumberland Road.

Arriving Fire  Units requested Mountain Rescue and the Sheriff’s Office  to respond to the scene for a dune buggy approximately 30 feet over an embankment with entrapment.

 

UPDATE:

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol,  54 year old, Neil Petkow of Oak Harbor was killed in the  accident.

The press memo says Neil Petkow, was driving a blue, 2005 Dune Buggy,  down forest Service Road 18 when he cornered too fast, rolled West down a hill and struck  a tree.  He was found deceased on scene.

 

The press memo states he was not wearing a seat belt or helmet.

The memo states drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident.

No charges are pending.

The dune buggy was impounded by Carl’s Towing.

Updated at the request of Susan Perticone on August 6th, 2015: Editor’s Note: In the original version we stated Petkow was not wearing a seat belt but Susan Perticone, the deceased man sister,  later clarified he was wearing a harness in the incident.
