Whatcom County, WA- Law Enforcement officials say they have recovered the body of 24-year-old Corey Defamio of Mount Vernon from Lake Whatcom in Whatcom County.
Mr. Defamio had been reported missing while Kayaking on Lake Whatcom on August 30th, 2015.
A press memo from the Whatcom County Undershriff Jeff Parks, says that Sheriff’s deputies and fire crews were called around 6:15 am on Saturday, September 5th, to the 2000 block of North Shore Drive after a body was seen floating in the lake.
“Given the location and the clothing description, we are reasonably certain that the victim is in fact the missing kayaker” Undersheriff Jeff Parks wrote in a press release to media.
Corey Defamio was last seen around 5:30 am on August 30th, when he went out for an early morning Kayak ride on Lake Whatcom.
Search and rescue teams from around the area had searched for him but were unable to locate him.
The faded yellow kayak he was reportedly riding in was found flooded- , full of water, under a dock in the 2100 block of North Shore Road on Monday August 31st.
Next of Kin has been notified and the Whatcom County medical examiner responded to the scene.
Corey’s Aunt, Niccole DeFamio Boyd, had shared his photos with us on our Facebook page on the day he went missing. She had asked the community to share his photos in an attempt to try and locate him after he went missing.
Corey’s family posted a Thank You on their social media pages to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the Search and Rescue teams and his friends who all spent time looking for him after he went missing.
