Driver Arrested After Crash on Old Day Creek Road

Clear Lake, WA- September 5th, 2015. The Washington State Patrol responded with the Clear Lake Fire Department and the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office to a serious injury car accident on Old Day Creek Road near East Lake Drive just after 10:45 am today.

According to the Press Memo from the Washington State Patrol, 42 year old Omar Chevez of Sedro Woolley was  Westbound on Old Day Creek Road in a white 2005 Chevrolet Pickup when he failed to negotiate a curve, and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The driver attempted to steer back into his own lane and over corrected, and struck a telephone pole. The press memo states Mr. Chevez was under the influence of Drugs or alcohol and was not wearing a seat belt.  Mr. Chevez was injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.

Two passengers in the vehicle were seriously injured in the crash.

Hugo Saldado, 29, of Mount Vernon was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The press memo states, Mr. Saldado was not wearing a seat belt.

Eddie Flores, 34, of Mount Vernon was also injured and transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.  The press memo states, Mr. Flores was not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash is listed as Speed.

Charges against the driver are pending for 2 counts of vehicular assault , driving under the influence and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Skagit County Jail on an investigative hold for those charges. ** Officers on scene had to search for a firearm that was thrown from the vehicle into the woods after the crash.

The truck was impounded by Carl’s Towing to the Washington State Patrol District 7 Bullpen.

The status of the two injured passengers is unknown at this time.
