MOUNT VERNON, WA — Skagit County prosecutors have filed a Motion for Warrant (Probable Cause) against Jason Daniel Doherty, 49, of Anacortes, alleging large-scale drug distribution and possession of explosive devices following multiple investigations across Skagit County.
According to court documents filed January 30, 2026, the Skagit County Interlocal Drug Enforcement Unit (SCIDEU), Tulalip Police Department, and Mount Vernon Police Department conducted investigations dating back to mid-2025 involving controlled buys and traffic stops.
January 14, 2026 – Mount Vernon Investigation
On January 14, Mount Vernon Police contacted a vehicle at the 7-Eleven located at 805 S 5th Street. A narcotics detection K9 alerted to the vehicle, and officers later obtained a search warrant.
Investigators report locating:
- Approximately .738 kilograms of methamphetamine
- 36.61 grams of fentanyl powder
- 16.41 grams of DMT
- 3.08 grams of Xanax
- 0.71 grams of Diazepam
- 1.81 grams of Subutex
- Scales and packaging materials
- Seven explosive devices, including a homemade tennis ball bomb and six “M” style explosives
The Bellingham Police Bomb Squad was called to assist. According to investigators, the devices appeared to be viable improvised explosive devices.

- Over 200 grams of suspected fentanyl powder
- Nearly 29 grams of suspected methamphetamine
- Heroin, mushrooms, Suboxone, Xanax pills
- More than $8,000 in cash
December 2025 Traffic Stop
- 120 grams of heroin
- Over 257 grams of fentanyl powder
- Nearly 287 grams of methamphetamine
- Hundreds of fentanyl pills
- Additional narcotics and explosive devices
Recommended Charges
Prosecutors recommend multiple counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute controlled substances including methamphetamine, fentanyl, Xanax, Subutex, Diazepam, and DMT, along with seven counts of possession of explosives without a license.
Court records indicate prior felony drug convictions and previous federal prison time related to narcotics distribution.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
