Whatcom County, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatality crash on Interstate 5 in Whatcom County around 4:30 pm on December 18th.
The press memo states, 26 year old Trooper Benjamin Ellis of Bellingham was investigating another collision on Northbound I-5 and was sitting in his fully marked 2013 Chevrolet Caprice with his emergency lights activated when his vehicle was struck from behind.
The press memo states a Northbound 2003 Buick Lesabre left the roadway to the left and struck the Trooper vehicle.
The 72 year old driver, Sandra Clifford of Blaine died in the crash. The Trooper, was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham with injuries.
The press memo states both vehicles were impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen in Marysville.
The cause of the accident is listed as “Speed”.
No Charges are pending as the causing driver was deceased at the scene.
