Fatal Crash on I-5 near 188th Street in King County

King County, WA- The Washington State Patrol Responded to a fatality accident on I-5 just South of 188th Street around 11:30 pm on December 26th, 2015.

According to the press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 40 year old Nancy Hernandez Martinez of Kent was traveling Southbound I-5 near 188th Street  in Lane one in a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe when she slowed for traffic and lost control of her vehicle. The press memo states that she veered into lane two where she struck a 2014 Freightliner Tractor towing a 2015 refrigerated trailer being driven by 27 year old Peter Hisey of Everett.

The press memo states the impact of the crash caused both vehicles to roll over and they ended up on the left shoulder of the roadway, blocking the left lane.

The driver of the Tahoe was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in critical condition.  The press memo states she was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi truck was injured and transported to Highline Medical Center.
A 42 year old female from Federal Way, a passenger in the Tahoe was killed in the crash and died at the scene. Her information has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The press memo states she was not wearing a seat belt.
A third passenger in the Tahoe, Luis Alvarezmacias, 42 of Kent was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center. The press memo states he was wearing his seat belt.

A passenger in the semi, 62 year old,  Kim Vanhouten of Mount Vernon was injured in the crash and transported to Highline Medical Center. The press memo states she was wearing her seatbelt.

The press memo states the roadway was blocked for eleven hours and fifty three minutes. Drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the crash.

The press memo states the cause of the cause of the crash is under investigation and possible charges are under investigation.
