Mount Vernon Woman Arrested For Huffing Aerosol Cans

Mount Vernon, WA- The Mount Vernon Police Department has arrested Kara Wood, with a last known address in Mount Vernon for huffing Aerosol Cans at multiple local businesses.

On 08/15/15 at approximately 5:30 pm Mount Vernon Police Responded to a welfare check at Wal Mart. Wal Mart had reported that a female was in the bathroom for thirteen hours and they had concerns she was using drugs.  The woman had periodically came out of the bathroom to select electronic equipment dusting cans from the shelves and would return to the restroom with them.   Police contacted the woman and ultimately took her into custody.  Officers found 12 cans of aerosol canned “air” in the bathroom and in her purse that she admitted to  had been huffing, as well as a glass pipe with methamphetamine residue which she admitted to using.  The total loss to Wal Mart for the canned air was $59.52.

The woman was transported to the hospital for treatment. She was charged with Possession of Drugs (VUCSA), Drug Paraphernalia and Theft 3rd.

On 11/27/15 around 4:26 pm Mount Vernon Officers were called to Rite Aid for a report of a female who had been in the restroom for over two hours and would not leave when asked.  Store staff believed the woman was in the restroom “huffing” aerosol cans and passing out.

Officers contacted the woman, who they again  identified as Kara Wood. She had four aerosol cans in her possession, two she had taken off the shelf while inside Rite Aid.

Officers confirmed she had two misdemeanor warrants for theft 3rd and took her into custody.  Officers also confirmed that she had been previously trespassed from Rite Aid on 3/24/15 for theft. Officers also noted the theft and Trespass from Wal Mart in August as well as a theft in September 2015 from Best Buy for stealing aerosol cans and taking them into the restroom to “huff.”

She was taken to the Skagit County Jail and booked for Burglary 2nd, because she had previously been trespassed from Rite Aid.  She was also charged with retail theft 3rd with special circumstances for committing thefts in three separate retails locations within a 180 day period. She was also charged with unlawful inhalation of aerosol duster cans and possession of drug paraphernalia for again possessing a glass pipe used for meth.

On January 13th, 2016, Kara Wood was again taken into custody by the Mount Vernon Police Department at the Wal Mart Store. She is currently being held on a $20,000 bond in the Skagit County Jail for Burglary 2nd degree, Organized retail crime, VUCSA, Inhaling Toxic Fumes (glue), obstructing Law Enforcement and Theft 3rd.
