King County, WA:  Distracted driving was the likely cause of a fatal collision on the morning of February 29th, 2016,  on State Route 18 in Auburn.  According to investigators, the driver of a 2012 Ford 550 pick-up which caused the collision, admitted to observing the disabled pick-up and utility trailer but took his eyes off the roadway before the collision.

The disabled vehicle, a 2004 Ford 350 pick-up truck and utility trailer, was parked at least three feet off the roadway on the shoulder east bound SR 18 west of the Auburn-Black Diamond Rd.  The driver of the disabled truck and utility trailer had pulled to the right shoulder after the left rear tire became flat.   The driver and passenger exited the vehicle in an attempt to retrieve a spare tire located underneath the rear bed of the pick-up truck.

The causing vehicle, Ford 550, struck the utility trailer which hit the driver of the disabled Ford 350, who was still outside of the vehicle.  The driver of that vehicle (Ford 350) Ali Mustafa Saeed (40) of Puyallup died at the scene.  The passenger of the disabled vehicle (Ford 350) Dawood Mustafa Amedi (43) of Puyallup, who was also outside of the vehicle, was eventually transported to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the causing vehicle (Ford 550), a 47 year old male from Arlington, was not impaired and was released from the scene pending further investigation.
