6-Year old Boy Dies on Trail Near Big Four Ice Caves

Granite Falls, Washington. – The body of  6 year-old,  Aidan McClanahan was recovered from the area around the Big Four Ice Caves around 9 pm on the  evening of May 1st, 2016.

According to Lt. Norm Link with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Officer, the six year old boy was reported missing from the trails near the Big Four Ice Caves by his family around 6:00 P.M.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office mobilized a search and rescue operation which included a helicopter deployment to assist in the search. 

After over two hours of searching, the child was located in the river by SnoHAWK 10, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter Search Team.  

Ground Crews recovered his body  from the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River, about a mile downstream from the trail’s footbridge, which crosses the river. The  ground  Search and Rescue teams unsuccessfully attempted to revive him with CPR. 

The boy’s family confirmed that they had been in the area of the footbridge by the river prior to the boy’s disappearance.

On May, 2nd, 2016, the Snohomish County Medical Examiners Office completed the identification and examination of the 6-year old boy who was found in the Stillaguamish River near the Big Four Ice Caves on May 1, 2016.
The decedent is identified as 6-year old  Aidan McClanahan of Mill Creek, WA. The cause of death is freshwater drowning.  The manner of death is Accident.
