Island County, Washington- The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on State Route 20 near Taggert Quarry Road around 8:30 am on July 16th. 2016.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 37-Year old Jerry Pisel of Oak Harbor is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol while he was driving Northbound on State Route 20 in a blue 1995 Volkswagen Jetta when he crossed the center line and struck a Southbound 2004 Toyota Pickup Head-On. The Toyota Pickup was driven by 63-year old Garry Rigg of Oak Harbor.
Mr. Rigg was injured and transported to Island County Hospital in Anacortes. A passenger in the Toyota truck, 60-year old Eileen Rigg of Oak Harbor was also injured and transported by medics to Island County Hospital.
The driver of the Jetta was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.
Both Vehicles were impounded to the Washington State Patrol bullpen in Burlington.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but Troopers believe alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor in the incident.
Charges of Vehicular Assault are pending against Mr. Pisel.
