Man Dies After Slipping into Skagit River Near Concrete

Skagit County, Washington- The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a water rescue in the 46000 block of State Route 20  at 4:53 pm on October 4th, 2016.

Witnesses reported to  Deputies that a man in his 50’s was attempting to load a boat at the Baker River Boat launch when his boat started to drift away. The witnesses said the  man attempted to grab his boat and slipped into the river and was swept away.

Search and Rescue (SAR) crews and a Navy SAR  Helicopter responded to the area to search for the man.  The man was spotted by the Navy Helicopter SAR crew around 6:09 pm about a half a mile downriver from where he originally went into the river.

Medics from Aero Skagit Ambulance and firefighters from Skagit County Fire District 10 performed CPR on the man, but he was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Mans identity has not been released by the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office. The cause and manner of death will be officially released by the Skagit County Coroners Office.
