Brigid Collins Family Support Center Cuts Ribbon on New, Larger Facility

Mount Vernon, WA – The Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce proudly welcomed the Brigid Collins Family Support Center on Thursday, September 22 with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony.

The event began at 4:30 p.m. at Brigid Collins’ new Skagit county facility on S. 3rd St. in downtown Mount Vernon. Brigid Collins hosted an open house where visitors, supporters, employees, government officials and community members were welcomed to explore the new home. The space, a former private residence that was remodeled extensively, will allow the organization to serve more families. Brigid Collins Family Support Center is dedicated to supporting children and families in abusive or neglectful situations. They have been in operation since 1990 in both Whatcom and Skagit counties.

“This new facility will allow us to see more kids and better serve our professionals,” Center Coordinator Veronica Lopez said. “There’s more space for forensic interviews with our detectives and for medical exams— which provides more privacy and comfort for our families.”

Representatives from the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, Mount Vernon Mayor Jill Boudreau and State Representative Norma Smith, who was credited as a pivotal player in securing funding for the organization’s expansion, were in attendance. The Sedro Woolley Rotary also presented Brigid Collins with a check in the amount of $8,900 to further their mission.
