Stanwood, WA – A lock-down at Port Susan Middle School on Wednesday was caused by an unloaded BB gun.
When administrators were notified by students that a classmate had a weapon on campus, the police were called, the student was removed from the building and the building was placed in lock down.
The district’s communication manager, Maurene Stanton said the students are to be commended for reporting a safety issue quickly, using the proper channels.
“Any time we receive reports concerning safety of students or staff, we adhere to school and district protocols,” Stanton said.
In this case, that involved contacting police, removing the threat to students and staff, and commencing lock-down procedures.
“Our students and staff take safety seriously,” Stanton said. “They implemented lock-down procedures as they have been trained to do.”
Stanton encouraged students and parents to call the Stanwood Police Department or talk to their school administrator if they experience any threatening situation.
