Man Dies After Being Struck By Train in Mount Vernon

Mount Vernon, WA – Officers from the Mount Vernon Police Department  responded to reports of a Train versus pedestrian accident at the Railroad Crossing on Riverside Drive just after 8 pm on Wednesday, November 16th, 2016.

According to a press release from Lieutenant Greg Booth with the Mount Vernon Police Department, Investigators learned an adult male believed to be in his 20’s was walking Southbound on the West Side of Riverside Drive when a Southbound Amtrak Train proceeded through the controlled intersection with Riverside Drive.

Witnesses to the incident told investigators the crossing arms were down, red lights were flashing and audible signals were sounding.  As the train approached, it appears the male attempted to cross the railroad tracks in advance of the train, but he wasn’t able to clear the tracks and was struck and killed by the train.
