Arlington Man Critically Injured in SR9 Crash

Skagit County, WA The Washington State Patrol responded to a high risk, serious injury crash around 5:46 pm  on North State Route 9 near the Skagit/Snohomish County Line.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 57- year old Timothy Smith, of Sedro Woolley was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol as he was traveling Southbound on State Route 9 in a green 1999 Acura.

The press memo says Mr. Smith  attempted  an unsafe pass of two vehicles on a double-yellow line when he struck a black 2002 Honda Civic head-on. The Honda was being driven by  48-year old  Scott McCauley of Arlington.

Firefighters and Medics from four Fire Districts, including Skagit County Fire District 3, Big Lake Fire, Lake McMurray Fire and Snohomish County Medics responded to the scene with two Skagit County Ambulance Crews.  First responders had to extricate Mr. McCauley from his vehicle, where they transported him via ambulance to  an Airlift Northwest Medical Helicopter  that was waiting nearby.  The helicopter  transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Mr. McCauley’s wife, told Skagit Breaking he is in critical condition at Harborview but he is hanging in there.

Mr. Smith,  was injured and after treatment for his injuries,  he was booked into the Skagit County Jail for investigation of Driving under the influence and vehicular assault.

The cause of the crash is listed as Illegal Pass.

Both vehicles were impounded by Budget Towing to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen.
