Whatcom County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on State Route 9 near Maleng Road, two miles South of Acme on December 30th, 2016.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 25-year old Vasiliy Varkentin of Maple Falls was traveling Northbound on State Route 9 at Maleng Road in a red 2006 Dodge Ram when the vehicle crossed the center line into the Southbound lanes, drove up an embankment and rolled back down, landing on the roof. Mr. Varkentin died at the scene.
Two Passengers in the vehicle, 36-year old Victor Tikhonov and 30-year old Sergey Tikhonov, both of Maple Falls were both injured in the crash and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham for treatment. The press memo states all three occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash is listed as crossing the center line.
