Skagit County, WA – On January 7th, 2017 around 12:30 a.m. three men went to a large party at a gravel pit on Potts Road in Skagit County with one of the men intent on assaulting another man.
According to a probable cause affidavit of Arrest obtained by Skagitbreaking.com, one of the men, identified as 25-year old Curtis Cameron of Sedro-Woolley, went to the party with the intent of assaulting a 19-year old male subject that was at the party. He was accompanied by 27-year old Mathew Cameron of Sedro-Woolley and another man.
Curtis located the 19-year old man he was looking for and hit him in the head with a large metal object believed to be a boxed end wrench. As the victim fell to the ground, the affidavit says Curtis Cameron continued to hit the man several more times.
Several people at the party turned on the three men and chased them back to the truck they arrived in, a black Dodge Truck owned by Curtis Cameron. The group then began to break the windows out of the truck and the three men were able to drive away.
The arrest affidavit states the three men then drove to a residence in Day Creek where Curtis Cameron made between 4 and 6 Molotov cocktails using gasoline in pop bottles. Curtis was mad about what happened to his truck and made comments that he was going to go back and “burn them” and “kill them.”
Curtis Cameron and Mathew Cameron then left the residence and drove back to the gravel pit on Potts Road. As they drove up Potts Road, they encountered a car with three teenagers in it. Curtis Cameron swore at the teens and threw a burning Molotov Cocktail at their car. The Molotov Cocktail hit the back of the car and bounced off, landing on the ground where it continued to burn.
Further up the road, a 17-year old male was walking up to his vehicle to lock it. One of the males from the Dodge, either Curtis or Mathew started yelling profanities at the 17-year old and jumped out of the truck and opened the door of the 17-year old’s vehicle and threw a burning Molotov Cocktail into the vehicle. The 17-year old attempted to extinguish the fire by throwing snow on it, but he was unable to extinguish it and his vehicle was completely burnt in the fire.
The 17-year old saw the suspects drive further up Potts Road and use another Molotov Cocktail to set another vehicle on fire.
The investigation into the fires is ongoing but Curtis Cameron and Mathew Cameron were both charged in the incident.
Curtis Cameron was charged with one count of Arson 1st Degree, two counts of Arson 2nd Degree, and one county of Assault 1st degree. He pleaded not guilt to the charges in Skagit County Court on Thursday February 2nd, 2017. Curtis Cameron remains in the Skagit County Jail on a separate charge of trafficking in stolen property.
Mathew Cameron was charged with one count of Arson 1st Degree and Two counts of Arson 2nd Degree. He pleaded not guilty to the charges in Skagit County Court on Thursday, February 2nd, 2017.
