Arlington, WA – Officers from the Arlington Washington  Police Department responded to a reported disturbance between a male and a female around 5:00 a.m. on February 14th, 2017 in the 500 block of North Olympic Avenue in Arlington, Washington.

A press release from the Everett Police Department states the initial call stated a woman was in distress, laying in the street and screaming.  Arriving Officers contacted the female, who ran to a nearby car. Officers followed the female to the vehicle and contacted her again.

Witnesses on scene said the female exited the car and advanced on Officers who tried unsuccessfully to stop her using a Taser.

Arlington Officers advised dispatch the female had a knife and was suicidal.  Shortly thereafter, Officers advised dispatch  that shots were fired and requested aid.  Medics responded and treated the female, who was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a gunshot wound to the lower right side.

The female who has not been officially identified was later identified only as being  17-years old.  The specifics of the contact between the involved Officers and the teen are still under investigation by the (S.M.A.R.T.)  Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.

Evidence indicates a physical assault occurred between the 17-year old female and her boyfriend, an 18-year old male, prior to the initial 9-1-1 call.  A knife has been recovered from the scene.

The car the female ran to has been impounded by detectives and will be processed for evidence after a search warrant is granted.

The 17-year old female remains in Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Both involved Arlington Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure in Officer Involved Shootings.  One Officer is a 12-year veteran of the Arlington Police Department and the other has been with the agency for two years.

The continuing Investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team, a team of Detectives from various Snohomish County Law Enforcement agencies who respond to and investigate police use of force incidents.
