Burlington Police Respond to Weapons Offense at Maiben Park

Burlington, WA –  City of Burlington Police Officers were dispatched to a weapons offense in the 1000 block of Greenleaf Avenue around 5:25 p.m. on February 17th, 2017. ‘

Witnesses reported seeing a subject with a gun at Maiben Park and hearing a single gunshot.  Burlington Officers arrived and located a subject matching the witnesses description. The subject was standing near the covered picnic are in the park holding a handgun.

The Suspect initially refused Officers orders to drop his weapon.  The suspect ultimately complied and was taken into custody by Burlington Officers.  No one was injured during the incident Detective Sgt.   Eddie Rogge wrote in a release on the incident.

The suspect was found to be highly intoxicated, and identified  through online booking records from the Skagit County Jail as 27-year old  Steven Chapman of Bellingham.

Mr. Chapman was booked into the Skagit County Jail for reckless endangerment and aim/discharge of a firearm. He is currently being held in the jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.
