Lake Stevens Woman on Scooter Killed by Drunk Driver

Island County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal crash around 8:26 p.m.  in the 7000 block of Bailey Road in Clinton on May 29th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 30-year old Jeffery Lewellen of Clinton was traveling Westbound on Bailey Road in a silver 1996 Honda Civic  at a high rate of speed.

69-year old Diane Sturlaugson of Lake Stevens was traveling Eastbound on Bailey Road on a black 2009 Vespa GTS motor scooter.

The press memo states Mr. Lewellen’s Honda  crossed the center line and struck the Vespa Motor scooter Head-on, killing Diane Sturlaugson instantly.

Troopers believe the crash was caused by  Mr. Lewellen driving under the influence and crossing the center line at the time of the crash. He was booked into the Island County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Homicide.

Both vehicles were impounded by Scotty’s Towing to the Marysville Washington State Patrol Bullpen.
