Whatcom County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Tiopi Loop Road in Whatcom County around 8:00 p.m. on June 2nd, 2017.
According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, a 63-year old Bellingham woman was backing out of a driveway in the 4300 block of Tiopi Loop Road in a 2002 Mercedes-Benz when she failed to see a 1-year old juvenile playing in the driveway. The juvenile was struck and died as a result of her injuries.
The driver and a 26-year old male passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
Drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the accident.
Next of Kin was notified by the Whatcom County Family Support/Lumi Nation.
The cause of the crash is listed as inattention and charges are pending.
