Island County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two car collision around 3:02 p.m. on State Route 525 at Crawford Road.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 20-year old Abby Hodson of Freeland was legally stopped on Southbound State Route 525 waiting for Northbound traffic to clear, before making a left turn onto Crawford Road in a 2000 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon.
Troopers say 36-year old Joseph Turner of Freeland was also traveling Southbound in a grey 1993 Honda, while using a cell phone. They say his vehicle struck the Subaru Station Wagon. Mr. Turner was injured and transported to Whidbey Health for treatment. The press memo states Mr. Turner was not wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in the Honda, a 17-year old minor, was also injured and transported to Whidbey Health for treatment. The press memo states the minor was not wearing a seat belt.
The press memo states Ms. Hodson was wearing a seat belt and was not seriously injured in the crash.
Both vehicles were impounded by Simmons Towing for safe keeping.
Distracted driving (cell phone) is listed as the cause of the crash. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash.
