Kelso Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on SR9

Snohomish County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on State Route 9 near the Snohomish River Bridge around 1:34 p.m.  on July 15th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 48-year old Richard Ruzek of Kelso was traveling Southbound on State Route 9 on a 2005 Kawasaki Motorcycle when he failed to see traffic ahead of him coming to a stop.

The press memo states Mr. Ruzek attempted to avoid a collision and crossed a double yellow line, swerving  into oncoming traffic and struck a Northbound 2007 Toyota Corolla being driven by 48-year old Ronald Alcorn of Bothell.   Mr. Ruzek died at the scene as a result of his injuries.   Mr. Alcorn was injured and transported by medics to Providence Hospital in Everett.

A passenger in the vehicle, 47-year old John Storm of Kirkland was also injured and transported to Providence hospital in Everett.

The press memo states Mr. Ruzek did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement but was wearing a USDOT compliant helmet at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is listed as speeds to fast for conditions.
