Seattle Rapper Macklemore Hit By Drunk Driver Near Langley

Island County, WA – Seattle Rapper Macklemore, whose legal name is Ben Haggerty,  was involved in  a head-on crash at 10:22 p.m. on Friday, July 28th, 2017  in Langley, Washington.

The Washington State Patrol says a 1986 Chevy S-10 pickup truck was being  driven Southbound on Cascade Avenue  by 24-year old Jake O’Brian Pitcher of Freeland. Troopers say Mr. Pitcher was “rounding a bend in the road” when he crossed over the centerline  into oncoming traffic and struck  Macklemore’s 2016 Mercedes Maybach head-on.

Troopers say the driver of the truck was not wearing a seat belt and  suffered serious facial injuries after hitting his head on the windshield during the crash. Troopers  suspected the driver of the truck was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash and when Troopers asked him,  he told Officers that he had drank earlier in the day.

Mr. Pitcher was transported to WhidbeyHealth in Coupeville for treatment and was later arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Washington State Patrol Public Information Officer, Trooper Heather Axtman  said Macklemore was not injured and had two passengers in his vehicle. One passenger suffered minor injuries.

Macklemore received a citation for driving on a suspended license.  His vehicle,  which is  valued at well over $150,000.00 was totaled in the crash.
