Man Killed By Train in Monroe Identified

Monroe, WA- The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 37-year old Trevor M. Young of Index, WA as the man struck by a train near State Route 2 and Woods Creek in Monroe, Washington on January 16th, 2018.   The cause of death is blunt force injuries to the truck and the manner of death has been determined as an accident.

Monroe Police Officers responded to a train verses pedestrian collision around 6:00 a.m. on the morning of January 16th, 2018.

The train conductor told Officers that he had spotted the man laying between the rails of the train trestle and he engaged the emergency brake in an attempt to stop the train.  The conductor said the man tried to get up and move out-of-the-way but was struck by the train and thrown from the trestle.

Officers said they found the man’s backpack a short distance West of the train trestle, and then located his body in a log jam in Woods Creek below the  trestle.

Divers from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted the Monroe Police Department with the recovery of Mr. Young’s Body.
