Firefighters Find Body In Mount Vernon House Fire

Mount Vernon, WA – Fire Officials have confirmed that one person has died in an early morning house fire in the 1500 block of  E. Spruce Street in Mount Vernon on January 23rd, 2018.

In a press release, Officials said Mount Vernon Firefighters responded to reports of a fully involved structure fire at 3:37 a.m.

The fire response was quickly upgraded to a second alarm and 25 additional firefighters responded from three neighboring fire districts, including firefighters from  the City of Burlington Fire Department, Skagit County Fire District 2 and Skagit County Fire District 3.

The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes and fully extinguished shortly thereafter.

Damage to the home is estimated at around $133,000, according to the press release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the identity of the victim will be released at a later time by the Skagit County Coroners Office.

Mount Vernon Fire Chief Bryan Brice stated “The Mount Vernon Fire Department encourages all home owners to have working smoke alarms in their home. Families should have emergency plans and practice them. We want all homes and businesses to be fire safe!”
