Driver Arrested After Crash on Chuckanut Drive

Skagit County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on State Route 11 near milepost 12.5 around 5:38 p.m. on April 17th, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 27-year old Collin Lewis of Ferndale is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol as he was traveling Southbound on Chuckanut Drive (SR11) at a high rate of speed  in a Dark Green 2000 Nissan Maxima.  Troopers say as the vehicle approached a curve in the roadway near milepost 12.5 the vehicle struck a guard rail, left the roadway and continued approximately 100′ down an embankment.

Troopers say a passenger in the vehicle, 28-year old Resa Gipson of Bellingham was not wearing a seat belt and was injured in the crash. Firefighters and medics treated her on scene and she was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

Two additional teen passengers, a 14-year-old female and a 16-year-old male from Bellingham were treated at the scene and released.

The cause of the crash is listed as speed.

The Driver, Collin Lewis was treated as Skagit Valley Hospital for his injuries and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center for suspicion of Vehicular Assault, Driving while License Revoked 1st, Felony Driving Under the Influence and Violation of Ignition Interlock Requirements. He is being held in Lieu of $150,000 bail.
