Murder Investigation Launched After Body Found Near Samish Lake Park

Whatcom County, WA – The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and the Bellingham Police Department are jointly working on a homicide investigation after a body was recovered near the Samish Lake Park on Sunday, July 29th, 2018.

Several eye witnesses reported to SkagitBreaking.com that police had cordoned off the area around Samish Lake Park and were not letting visitors into the area.

Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo told the Bellingham Herald on Monday “We did find a body in that area, and she has been identified as a missing Bellingham resident from the Fairhaven area. We are working with the Bellingham Police Department on their investigation.”  The woman’s identity was not released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Online Booking Reports for the Whatcom County Jail show that 29-year old Matthew Downey Gregory was booked into the Whatcom County Jail at 4:43 a.m. on Monday, July 30th, 2018 on Suspicion of 2nd Degree Murder.
