Snohomish County Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash on I-5 in Burlington

Skagit County, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a serious injury crash on Southbound  I-5 at Milepost 230 within the City of Burlington around 6:05 p.m. on September 23rd, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 67-year old Charles Maynard of Snohomish, WA was merging onto southbound Interstate 5 from State Route 20 on a black 2003 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. Troopers say for reasons unknown, the Harley Davidson Continued straight, crossing down a grass embankment and into traffic where it was struck by a white 2011 Toyota Prius in Lane 1 of Interstate 5.

The Prius was being driven by 19-year old Shubham Monga of Renton.  The impact of the crash ejected  Mr. Maynard from his motorcycle and he was thrown over the guardrail,  where he landed in the Northbound Lanes of Interstate 5.

Trooper say both the motorcycle and car continued approximately 50 feet before coming to rest against the guardrail in lane 2 of Southbound I-5.

Mr. Maynard was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon before being transported  to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.

Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. Mr. Maynard had a valid motorcycle endorsement and was wearing a USDOT compliant helmet.  Trooper say Mr. Monga was wearing a seat belt.

Both Vehicles were impounded for Safe Keeping. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
