Island County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a vehicle versus Pedestrian crash on State Route 525 near Useless Bay Road around 7:39 p.m. on January 14th, 2019.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 80-year old Virginia Nelson of Langley was crossing State Route 525 from the Southbound Shoulder when she was struck by a maroon 2002 Jeep Wrangler being driven by 21-year old Robert Warnke of Crosby in the Southbound Lane.
Nelson was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where she died as a result of her injuries at 5:20 a.m. on January 15th, 2019.
Warnke was not injured in the crash and the Jeep was driven from the scene.
Troopers say the cause of the crash remains under investigation but charges are not expected against Warnke.
