Clear Lake, WA – Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a reported armed robbery around 6:44 a.m. on May 25th, 2019 in the 12000 block of Fir Avenue in Clear Lake.
According to probable cause affidavits of arrest obtained by SkagitBreaking.com through a public disclosure request, a male called 9-1-1 and reported that a male known to him for over 20-years had kicked in his front door, walked into his bedroom and displayed a .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol. The suspect then allegedly struck the victim with the butt and barrel of the handgun in the head several times. The suspect then allegedly pressed the barrel of the handgun into the victims temple and stated “I’m going to Kill you.”
The suspect then punched the victim several times while yelling “stay away from my mother’s house,” according to court documents. The suspect then forced the victim to unlock his cell phone at gunpoint and hand over the phone to the suspect. The suspect then fled the residence in a white Cadillac Escalade.
The victim identified the suspect as 34-year old Joshua David Burton of Eagle River, Alaska.
Sheriff’s Deputies then located the suspects vehicle outside a residence in the 500 block of Beard Road in Lynden. Burton saw the Deputies and went into the home where he barricaded himself inside with several children and a female.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T and Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene due to the nature of the incident. Hostage negotiators were able to secure the release of the female and three children over the course of several hours.
Burton was then taken into custody without incident and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on an INVESTIGTIVE HOLD for suspicion of two counts of Robbery 1st Degree, and two counts of Assault 1st Degree. He is currently being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
All Suspects are Innocent until Proven Guilty in a court of law.
