Mount Vernon, WA – Officers with the Mount Vernon Police Department responded to reports of a person with an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg inside a private residence in the 1900 block of East College Way at 6:20 p.m. on June 4th, 2019.
Responding Officers were notified by dispatch that 47-year old Travis Lee Cabe of Mount Vernon, had accidently shot himself in the leg with a small caliber handgun and had fled the residence in a white pickup after a relative called 9-1-1. The relative reported Cabe, who has a lengthy criminal history, had made threats to “kill the police.”
While Investigators were on-scene, CABE drove back by the residence and Officers conducted a traffic stop on his vehicle in the area of Urban Avenue and East College Way.
Cabe was taken into custody and treated by Medics on scene before being transported to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon for treatment for his self inflicted gunshot wound. He was then arrested and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on an INVESTIGATIVE HOLD for charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm due to his previous felony convictions barring him from owning a firearm.
Officers obtained a search warrant and served the search warrant during their investigation. The Firearm was located and seized as evidence.
Cabe has a long rap sheet, including a 2016 arrest for Residential Burglary, Malicious Mischief 2nd, Violation of a Court Ordered No Contact Domestic Violence Order and Possession of a stolen vehicle. In the 2016 incident he had reportedly kicked in the front door to a residence in the 1900 block of East College Way around 8:47 p.m. and took a meat tenderizer and knife out of a kitchen drawer. Officers quickly responded and safely took Cabe into custody. There was a stolen Harley Davidson Motorcycle from Sedro-Woolley that was recovered from the driveway of the residence and Cabe admitted to Officers he had stolen the motorcycle earlier in the evening.
On June 26th, 2008 Cabe allegedly shot up a North Bend Motel according to an article in the Snoqualmie Valley Herald. Cabe was accused of firing a gun in a room he was staying in at the Sunset Motel on North Bend Way. Witnesses in that incident said Cabe, who had checked into the motel earlier in the day, started firing a gun inside his room and jumped out of his window onto the balcony. He allegedly went into the room next door where he frightened a resident who retreated to the bathroom.
When Officers arrived at the motel, Cabe was found outside and pointed the gun at King County Sheriff’s Deputies. Cabe eventually dropped his gun and was arrested. Cabe allegedly kicked out the rear window of the patrol car he was put into and Deputies found a large cache of handguns, rifles, knives and ammunition in Cabes room after he was arrested.
Cabe had been convicted of 19 Felony and Misdemeanor charges between 1989 and 1994, including Robbery 2nd Degree, Automobile Thefts, and Multiple Assaults according to the Snoqualmie Valley Herald and Online Court Records.
