Bellingham, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a serious injury crash on Southbound I-5 near milepost 252 in the Bellingham City limits.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 23-year old Shannon Hofer of Blaine was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol Northbound in the Southbound Lanes of I-5 in a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta when she struck a white 2013 Honda Civic head-on. The driver of the civic was identified by Troopers as 22-year old Ryann Lacey of Bellingham. Both drivers were seriously injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.
Troopers say both vehicles were totaled and impounded to the Washington State Bullpen by Heston Towing. ‘
The cause and possible charges are pending against the wrong-way driver.
