Troopers Respond to Crash on NB I-5 near Iowa Street

Bellingham, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle crash on Northbound I-5 near Iowa Street around 11:31 p.m. on December 14th, 2019.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 35-year old Cailin Buchan of Bellingham was traveling Northbound on I-5 near Iowa Street in a silver 2004 Honda Civic when she lost control of the vehicle and impacted the median concrete barrier. The vehicle then continued Northbound, rotated and struck the center concrete barrier before coming to rest in lane one of I-5.  Troopers say Buchan is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. She was not injured.

A passenger in her vehicle, 38-year old John Hafeman of Bellingham was injured and admitted to St. Joes Hospital in Bellingham. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remain under investigation.
