***Press Release***

MOUNT VERNON—Mayor Jill Boudreau has appointed Chris Cammock to the position of Police Chief of the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Chief Cammock is a 31-year veteran of the Department, and has served for thpast 6 months as the Department’s Interim Police Chief following the July 12, 2019 retirement of Chief Jerry Dodd.
The City conducted a nationwide search for its new Chief, and while many qualified candidates were identified, Cammock ultimately stood out as the most uniquely suited for the position.

“I have been impressed with how Chris has fulfilled the role of Interim Police Chief since July. He has already completed initiatives; including improvements to equipment, scheduling, and goal setting,” Mayor Boudreau said. “I am confident that Chris will be the effective leader that this Department needs as we move forward.”

A lifetime Skagit County resident, Chief Cammock graduated from Mount Vernon High School, Skagit Valley College and Central Washington University before moving back to the area to intern with the MV Police Department—a four-year stint which led to his full-time hiring in February of 1989. Since that time, Cammock has served Mount Vernon as a patrol officer, a sergeant, a police officer, records manager; as well as a lieutenant of the criminal investigations department, the patrol department, and the administrative services department. He holds certificates from the FBI National Academy, as well as supervisory certifications from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.

Chief Cammock has participated in the Skagit community through his involvement with the Mount Vernon High School Scholarship Foundation, Salem Lutheran Church Council, Skagit/Mount Vernon Rotary Club, the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation, and as a youth sports coach.

“Growing up in this community, I have been offered and provided with so much. An opportunity to return that, in this role, is really a privilege,” Cammock said. “I’m grateful to Mayor Boudreau for her confidence in appointing me to this position; and to the City Council and our staff for their support and confidence, as well.”

A swearing-in ceremony will be held at 4pm on Friday, February 28th at the Mount Vernon Police Court Campus (1805 Continental Place)
