Whatcom County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle, head-on crash at Portal Way and Birch Bay Lynden Road around 7:29 p.m. on September 6th, 2020.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 80-year old Ellen Bonebrake of Blaine was traveling Northbound in the Southbound Lanes of Portal Way from Birch Bay Lynden Road in a 2014 Cadillac XTS. Troopers say she struck a 2010 BMW X3 head-on. The BMW was being driven by 27-year old Elizabeth Humphery of Bellingham. Bonebrake was injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment where her condition remains unknown. Troopers say Bonebrake was allegedly under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash and charges against her are under investigation.
Humphery was also injured in the crash and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham. Two passengers in her vehicle, a 9 year old boy and a 6 year old boy were not injured.
Troopers say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Both Vehicles were impounded as evidence to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen.
