MOUNT VERNON—In a letter today from Chief Justice Debra Stephens of the Washington State Supreme Court; Mount Vernon City Councilmember Melissa Beaton was notified of her appointment to the Washington State Supreme Court Gender and Justice Commission.
The stated mission of the Gender and Justice Commission is to identify concerns and make recommendations regarding the equal treatment of all parties, attorneys, and court employees in the State courts, and to promote gender equality through researching, recommending, and supporting the implementation of best practices.
In the letter to Beaton, Chief Justice Stephens writes, “I am confident that this important commission will benefit from the expertise and experience you have to offer.”
Beaton indicated that she is honored to accept this opportunity to serve.
“I’m excited to work with the Commission, and to continue its work in promoting gender equality within the law and justice system,” she said.
The appointed term spans from November 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
