Whatcom County, WA – On December 3rd, 2020, around 6:00 am, deputies were dispatched to the 4700 block of Birch Bay Lynden Rd. for a report of an assault with a weapon.
The victim reported that her neighbor, 64-year-old Kathy Andersen, Blaine, had come at her with a knife. Deputies contacted the victim who explained that as she left her house to go to work, she found Ms. Andersen in her yard. The victim state that Anderson charged at her with a hunting knife and repeatedly threatened to kill her. The victim was able to defend herself with a lawn chair and ran to her car and got inside. Ms. Andersen allegedly chased after her and attempted to pull the car door open, all while wielding the knife and continuing the threats.
The victim reportedly kicked the car door open, which pushed Ms. Andersen back. The victim was then able to close the car door and call 911 and flee the area until deputies could arrive. The victim was not injured in the attack.
Deputies arrived at Ms. Andersen’s residence and after several minutes of negotiating, Ms. Andersen exited her house and was taken into custody without incident. Ms. Andersen admitted to deputies she wanted the victim to ‘know what it felt like to be threatened’. There is a documented history of Ms. Andersen harassing and threatening the victim.
Ms. Andersen was booked into jail for Criminal Attempt of Murder in the 2nd degree and Felony Violation of an Order for Protection, which was granted to the victim in October 2020.
