Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested by Anacortes Police Officers

Anacortes, WA –  On Sunday, December 20th, 2020,  just before 9 PM, Anacortes Police Officers responded to reports of an Armed  robbery in progress at a retail establishment near Sharpes Corner.

According to staff, a male suspect, later identified as a local 18-year old, walked into the business armed with a long gun and demanded product from the shelves. Staff members complied with the suspect’s demands and were not injured in the incident.

Before exiting the building, the suspect fired a round into the ceiling and fled the scene on foot.

Anacortes Officers were in the area within minutes, but were unable to locate the suspect that evening.

The alleged suspect, identified on the Skagit County Jail Roster as 18-Year old Austin Carter Thomas,  was taken into custody this morning without incident in the 1100 block of 27th Street in Anacortes and booked in the Skagit County Community Justice Center.

He is currently being held on an investigative hold for Robbery 1st Degree.
