Sedro-Woolley Man Dies As Result of Vehicle Crash on State Route 20 near Helmick Road

Sedro-Woolley, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on State Route 20 at Helmick Road around 1:31 p.m. on May 26th, 2022.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 77-Year Old Ernest Cheer of Sedro-Woolley was traveling Eastbound on State Route 20 near Helmick Road in a silver 2010 Chevy Equinox. Troopers say Cheer  attempted to make a left turn onto Helmick Road and failed to yield the right of way and turned in front of a Westbound 2011 Toyota Tacoma being driven by 82-year old Gary Troxel of Mount Vernon.

Troopers say Cheer was not injured in the crash but a passenger in his vehicle, 66-year old Dana Cheer of Sedro-Woolley was seriously injured in the crash and transported by air medical helicopter to Providence Regional Medical Center, where he died on June 4th, 2022 as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Mr. Troxel was injured in the crash and transported to United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley for treatment. Troopers say all three men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Both Vehicles were totaled and impounded for safe keeping by Carl’s Towing.

The cause of the crash is listed as Failure to Yield Right of Way.
