MOUNT VERNON— At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, the Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial fire located in the 100 block of Valley Mall Way.
When firefighters arrived at the store location (Rich’s Clearance Outlet), they found a working fire in the warehouse area where a sprinkler system was preventing the spread of the fire. The response was upgraded to a second alarm, and an adjacent day care center was evacuated for safety precautions.
Crews were able to quickly access the seat of the fire and extinguish the burning contents within 20 minutes of arrival.
Fire crews from Burlington Fire Department, Skagit County Fire District #3, and Skagit County Fire District #2 responded and assisted with operations. No injuries were reported, and the fire damage and cause are under investigation at this time.
Fire suppression systems save lives and property damage. This building was constructed with an automatic fire sprinkler system which successfully operated as designed and contained the fire to the area of origin.
