Sedro Woolley, Washington.  You may remember 8- year old Jayden Felton, of Sedro Woolley, Washington from his now semi-famous quote in the story  Mark Miller from  Komo 4 News  aired on him back on September 10th, 2014. If you haven’t viewed the story, Click here to go to Komo 4 News to watch it.

On the second day of third grade,  Jayden put on his helmet and rode his prized Tony Hawk BMX Bicycle to Central Elementary where he attends third grade. Jayden, a huge Tony Hawk Fan,  made sure he parked his bicycle in the bike rack provided by the school and he locked it up with a bike lock to make sure it was safe while he was in class.  Sometime between the start of school and noon, a thief cut the lock to his bicycle and stole it as well as three other bicycles.  For a third grader, this was beyond devastating.

Once Mark Miller heard of the theft, with Jayden’s Parents permission he interviewed the third grader. Mark asked Jayden some simple questions.

When asked how he feels after learning somebody made off with his Tony Hawk BMX bicycle. “Sad” was Jaydens response.

What would he do if he caught the person responsible? Mark asked.

If I find the guys who stole it I’m gonna rip their ears off,” he said matter-of-factly.

His parents explained that’s not an option and they would call the police instead.

The story generated some interest from the Seattle Bike Blog as well as a local radio station.  The wife of a deployed soldier from  Joint Base LewisMcChord called the Felton family and offered her husbands Mountain bicycle to Jayden. Unfortunately the bike would be too big for Jayden and they declined.

Sheila Countryman-Bean with Dwayne Lane’s North Cascade Ford in Sedro Woolley heard about the theft.  Shelia  knew right away that the dealership  wanted to help get Jayden a new bicycle and that is exactly what she did. Shelia made some phone calls to Jayden mother, Billie Felton and Shelia put a plan in place to order Jayden  a new Tony Hawk BMX Bicycle.

jaydenWhen the bicycle arrived, they had Jaydens parents bring him down to the dealership. He thought they were going there to look at cars. When Jayden walked into the Show room, he was greeted by the entire Staff of Dwayne Lane’s North Cascade Ford.  They surprised Jayden with a Brand new Tony Hawk BMX with a giant red bow on it. Jayden, a shy kid,  was speechless. His cheeks turned bright red as he had his photos taken with some of the employees. He couldn’t wait to get outside to try it out.

Jayden FeltonOnce outside, Jayden  was very happy getting on his new Tony Hawk Bicycle and riding it around the parking lot. He even told Shelia that he was glad they came outside, because he was so happy he was ready to cry.

After letting me take a couple more pictures of him with his new bike in front of the dealership, Jayden and his family  Thanked the Dwayne Lane staff and he asked if he could take his new bike home and ride it around the neighborhood.

Jayden FeltonI stayed for a few more minutes and chatted with Shelia. I learned that Dwayne Lanes North Cascade Ford just celebrated their 1 year anniversary at their location on 116 W. Ferry Street in Sedro Woolley and since 1954 their motto has been “We’ll take care of you”. The employees really showed that motto with their enthusiasm and restoring faith in this third grader. Shelia stated that “We are part of this community and we are really pleased that we were able to help a kid in the community.”  Shelia also told me that out of the four bicycles that were stolen, only two families filed police reports. She also stated that the local Les Schwabs store had bought the other child theft victim a new bicycle as well.  In the year that Dwayne Lanes has been in the Sedro Woolley Community they have done several community outreach programs.  A major one was providing vehicles at no charge to some of the OSO Mudslide Victims. It was nice to meet Shelia and I can honestly say, I am glad that Dwayne Lane’s North Cascade Ford is part of the Skagit County Community. Check out their Facebook page by clicking  here:
