Essential Public Facility (EPF) Permit for the New Skagit County Jail

Mount Vernon, WA: On September 10, 2014, the Mount Vernon City Council held a public hearing and decided to approve an essential public facility permit with conditions for a new Skagit County jail building.

Skagit County is pursuing the construction of an approximate 100,000 square foot, single-story jail facility with an estimated 400 beds to provide enough room to house correctional inmates over the next 15-20 years. It is anticipated that the new jail will be open and running in May of 2017.
