Sheriff: Marysville Shooter arranged meeting with victims

Shooting Update
Marysville, Washington: During a press conference in Everett today, the Snohomish County Sheriff, Ty Trenary said Freshman Jaylen Fryberg had arranged to meet up with five classmates in the cafeteria of Marysville-Pilchuck High School before opening fire on them. The Sheriff said Fryberg had texted the five people, and once they were seated at a cafeteria table he opened fire on them, shooting all five before taking his own life. Two of the victims were killed.

The Sheriff said the handgun, a .40-caliber Beretta, was purchased legally, registered and owned by a family member of the shooter. It is still under investigation how the shooter obtained the weapon.

The Sheriff said a motive for the shooting is still unknown.

 

Killed in the shooting were Zoe Galasso and Gia Soriano, both 14 years old.

The Gunman, Jaylen Fryberg took his own life.

Three other teens were wounded in the shooting and remain hospitalized. Two are in critical condition, one is awake and listed in serious condition.

Nate Hatch, 14, was in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center but has been upgraded to Satisfactory Condition. He is awake and breathing on his own. He has taken to his twitter account to communicate with people outside of the hospital.

Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, 14, is still in critical condition at Providence Regional Medical Center.

Andrew Fryberg, 15, is still in critical condition in the intensive-care unit at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center.

The Sheriff stated, conducting an investigation of this scope takes time and we may not have answers to many of your questions for several months. He also encouraged us all to focus on the future and come together as a community and take the time to heal.”
